Worksop Turbine smashes 12 month revenue target after renovations

Business is booming at an Innovation Centre in Worksop which has successfully delivered more than 130 per cent of the expected income from improvements carried out as part of a £270,000 investment 12 months ago.
An upgrade of the conference room at Worksop Turbine to provide seating for up to 70 people has successfully raised £26,000 for Nottinghamshire County Council, smashing the initial £20,000 predicted earnings.
Changes to the existing facility included creating the option to split the conference room in two, offering dynamic options for businesses wanting to stage small or large events or workshops.
The facelift funded by the County Council also included the construction of a café, which has succeeded in helping to further encourage collaboration between entrepreneurs as well as creating jobs for four people.
Claire Gregory, Centre Manager at Worksop Turbine Innovation Centre, said: “This time last year there was a special buzz as work was carried out as part of the £270,000 commitment to local business by the County Council.
“Since then, life at the centre continues to go from strength to strength with revenue generated as a direct result of the improvements which have been made.
“For the first time in two years users of the centre were treated to a café, now a year on it employs four members of staff and has sold approximately 5,000 bacon sandwiches.”
Statistics collated by the centre show the café is used by more than 85 per cent of the 39 internal businesses as well as providing a welcome pit stop for the local community. It also provides a take-out service and catering for external businesses using the conference centre.
Claire added: “We’re very proud of what we do at Worksop Turbine to support local business and provide a stepping stone to success. It’s been a fantastic first year with the new facilities.”
A new 742 sq ft office, created as part of improvements made at the Centre in Coach Crescent, Shireoaks, has celebrated 100 per cent occupancy since the reconfiguration. The initial tenant flew the nest making way for an existing business to spread their wings.
More than 240 people are employed by the 63 occupant businesses at the Turbine, including 43 new jobs created over the last 12 months.
The centre offers a range of workspace, from shared desk space within The Nest, a newly branded incubator space, virtual offices and private office space from £325 plus VAT per month. The centre also provides on-site business growth coaching services and training workshops for resident businesses.
